Have you seen my new photo album? Crystal at a slip of the pen convinced me to get a little artistic again so I shot some pictures of my wife’s hibiscus. Yes we cheated a little bit by having my kids hold up a black background but it makes the flower look much better. You can see the results here…

Experiment with different colors in the background. I often use a whiteboard behind the flowers I shoot, and it makes a nice soft background, but I do love the black.
I love the first one the best. Don’t be afraid to bend and twist and kneel and lay down when taking pictures. You can get some amazing angles that way!
