Wayne Martindale has a passion for the works of C.S Lewis like some people have a passion for fine wine or cigars or classical music. His passion is so evident in the way he explains Lewis’ masterful work, it mad me hunger for reading more of Lewis.
This particular book is focused on Lewis’ understanding and writings of heaven and hell. Martindale’s knowledge of Lewis is so extensive it is like all of the thoughts that he expresses in the book flow totally naturally for him. He was quoting books from Lewis of which I was not at all familiar. And he was pulling details from these books like he had read them several hundred times. It seemed he had to do no research at all, and the thoughts were just flowing directly from his mind.
The books basically flows in a format of destroying many of the misinterpretations that people have about heaven and hell and then he uses Lewis’ mythological style to paint a new and fresh picture of heaven and hell that almost anyone could understand.
The final result of this book for me was to hunger for heaven more than I have hungered for heaven before in my life. This book is a fantastic took for getting back into the masterful works of Lewis and gleaning new insights that my previous reading of some of the works had not originally provided for me. It has also opened the door to many more works of Lewis that are now on my reading list.
If Martindale intended to wet my appetite for more of Lewis and more of the things of God then his mission was accomplished. Well done!
