Katrina Recovery – Part 3

Yesterday we evacuated to Utica, Mississippi.  Six hour drive with 90 staff in 9 minivans, 2 sedans and one chase truck with all our luggage.  At this point the storm is heading right where we were – good move on our part.  Highly unlikely we will be returning to Lafayette within the next few days.  We will most likely be returning to Minnesota on Monday/Tuesday, with our replacements coming down when appropriate and able.

Just some other background, I was on a similar team that went up to Fort Ripley the week before all this started.  We established a clinic able to receive the 3,000 – 5,000 Hurricane Survivors that were scheduled to arrive in Minnesota, but never did.

You may have seen the coverage of Governor Pawlenty touring the facility when we were setting it up.  It turned out to be a great operation that involved St. Cloud Hospital, Mn Dept. of Health, HCMC, Children’s Hospital, Abbott Northwestern, Mayo, etc.

About waynem

As a Minnesota based photographer and artist I have been greatly influenced by the Upper Midwest. I focus my skills and energies on portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and fine art work. My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then finally deciding what to capture. The result is images that deeply touch people's emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams. My images are used commercially by companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary to communicate their shared vision and values. Book and magazine publishers have featured my images on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the decor of many fine homes.

Wow, I have to read about this, because either you’re a First-Responder, or you were affected by Katrina directly.
If the latter, please know that you are in all our prayers.
    If the former, ditto. 🙂
I’m especially interested in books listed to the left, as I love spying people’s bookshelves.
    Thanks for that. 🙂
    Cheers,
    Victoria

Thanks for stopping buy. Yes, I sure this would interest you as a “future MD”. But, this is not me, this is a friend that work for the Mayo Hospital and I am posting his diary entries….
I do find it very interesting.
    So, pray for his family.
    Keep up your studies.
