The MSM (mainstream media) is for many blogger part of the reason they got into blogging in the first place. The received wisdom however is that the USA is far worse off than the UK – that at least in the UK the ‘right of centre’ press balances the books. Oh really?
When The Times uncritically reports "America is almost always the most dysfunctional of the developing democracies, sometimes spectacularly so" and that belief in God is directly responsible for "higher rates of homicide, juuvenile and adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy and abortion" in the UK and USA you have to consider that the MSM has almost ‘lost it’ entirely.
To my many American friends – some on this short circulation list – it appears, according to The Times, you’re probably too dysfunctional to understand anyway – worse if you are a Christian or Jew!
If you are a Christian you might pray about this. I have had some thoughts on what might be done for some time. Perhaps we must just do what we can in the current fragmented blogging way that will increasingly help – though the USA is far better off in terms of blogging readership and influence than Britain, which still has some way to go.
The purpose of this note is to alert mostly my American friends – who often believe the Right wing press here is ‘quite good’ and to some specific instances that do not augur well for the on-going state of the British media – though perhaps some of you already knew.

nah, Britain as a nation just hates America and the media loves to slag you. British media/government/most everything is so Amricanised they’re just as corrupt but they still love to hate America. As an American having to live in this incredibly racist nation it’s a constant frustration, after all who baled them out of 2 world wars and got no recognition? who gives them their music, films, television, and most everythin else? Britain loves to say how violent and fat Americans are but it’s a fact that here in Scotland there are more obese people per capita and we’re three times more violent than America.

I understand Ellie’s frustration. But my main point is that not everyone does feel that way in the UK – it is just that the media is beginning has genuinely closed down most genuine debate.
For my own part I would rather apply for Britain to be the 51st State of the union rather than a region of Europe.

having read more of what you have to say about such things as the BBC, i have to agree. however i feel that the media has done a good job at controlling public opinion. most people that i know base their opinions and thoughts on what the media feeds them and since, as you say, the media is so narrow minded this has lead to a generation of narrow minded people, i’m at least talking for the younger generation. some of the older generations still have the ability to think for themselves.
and the fact that in Britain Christian broadcasting is in fact illegal is, I guess an indication of what you are talkin about – the media is closing off most genuine debate.
If the Times article actually said what Peter implied, I might agree. But it doesn’t. It reports a story. Whatever the motive of the person behind the story, what’s the truth of it? Is it the case that rates of reported Christian commitment are not reflected in the kind of social indicators being studied – violence, promiscuity, std’s and so on? If it’s true, how should Christians respond?
Christian broadcasting is not illegal in Britain. Much more tightly regulated than the US, but not illegal.
well from what i gather we’re not allowed to have Christian radio stations broadcast in britain. if you want to listen to one it has to be broadcast in a different country, either that or be an illegal pirate station. some stations are allowed to have Christian slots but whole stations dedicated to glorifying God are not allowed.

ok, i guess i must have been mislead, i’ve been lead to believe that christian radio was banned, it must be FM that Christian radio has been banned from. Premier is only on MW. i’ve known there was Christian stations on those channels but it’s been no use to me as i have very very poor reception for MW. and not everyone has satellite or the internet.
and if it isn’t banned then why the heck isn’t there christian stations, i’ve been desperate for one my whole life!
The HUMAN PARADIGM
Consider:
The missing element in every human ‘solution’ is
an accurate definition of the creature.
The way we define ‘human’ determines our view
of self, others, relationships, institutions, life, and
future. Important? Only the Creator who made us
in His own image is qualified to define us accurately.
Choose wisely…there are results.
Many problems in human experience are the result of
false and inaccurate definitions of humankind premised
in man-made religions and humanistic philosophies.
Human knowledge is a fraction of the whole universe.
The balance is a vast void of human ignorance. Human
reason cannot fully function in such a void; thus, the
intellect can rise no higher than the criteria by which it
perceives and measures values.
Humanism makes man his own standard of measure.
However, as with all measuring systems, a standard
must be greater than the value measured. Based on
preponderant ignorance and an egocentric carnal
nature, humanism demotes reason to the simpleton
task of excuse-making in behalf of the rule of appe-
tites, desires, feelings, emotions, and glands.
Because man, hobbled in an ego-centric predicament,
cannot invent criteria greater than himself, the humanist
lacks a predictive capability. Without instinct or trans-
cendent criteria, humanism cannot evaluate options with
foresight and vision for progression and survival. Lack-
ing foresight, man is blind to potential consequence and
is unwittingly committed to mediocrity, collectivism,
averages, and regression – and worse. Humanism is an
unworthy worship.
The void of human ignorance can easily be filled with
a functional faith while not-so-patiently awaiting the
foot-dragging growth of human knowledge and behav-
ior. Faith, initiated by the Creator and revealed and
validated in His Word, the Bible, brings a transcend-
ent standard to man the choice-maker. Other philo-
sophies and religions are man-made, humanism, and
thereby lack what only the Bible has:
1.Transcendent Criteria and
2.Fulfilled Prophetic Validation.
The vision of faith in God and His Word is survival
equipment for today and the future.
Human is earth’s Choicemaker. Psalm 25:12 He is by
nature and nature’s God a creature of Choice – and of
Criteria. Psalm 119:30,173 His unique and definitive
characteristic is, and of Right ought to be, the natural
foundation of his environments, institutions, and re-
spectful relations to his fellow-man. Thus, he is orien-
ted to a Freedom whose roots are in the Order of the
universe. Selah
