Plans are being made at my church for a team to go down to New Orleans Louisiana to help in the Katrina recovery effort. Our main plan is to help some of the people that have seen their lives totally turned upside down by the destructive power of hurricane Katrina.
The senior pastor at my church Warren Coe has a long term friendship with John Gerhardt the leader of Urban Impact. Urban Impact is a ministry to the poorest of the poor in the inner city of New Orleans.
John had been at our church a few times in the past just to share with us what his ministry is doing and to invite people to come down and help when they can. Not only did he share with us, but he also blew our socks off. You see, in John’s previous life, he had been a wild professional saxophone player and man can this cat blow!
So the minute I met John, I knew I liked him. He is talented, strait to the point and sincere. I remember the thought registering that is the chance came, I would go with him for at least some about of time.
After Hurricane Katrina, that time had come. He came to out church again just a few weeks after the hurricane. You could tell he was a bit frazzled. He was forced to evacuate both his ministry and the people from his church in the inner city. He had ideas for rebuilding the devastated inner city in a way that was not so reliant on government and helped to produce an ownership mentality. These ideas, these dreams would take an organization, they would take workers and they would require help.
I knew immediately that this was my time, my call. Here is my opportunity to give and work. I know instinctively or intuitively that it is in giving that we are blessed.
I will be leading a team from my church that will be going to work, to serve. We will be leaving from Minnesota on February 4th to begin our journey. My hope is that our only agenda is to be totally helpful and flexible.

About waynem
As a Minnesota based photographer and artist I have been greatly influenced by the Upper Midwest. I focus my skills and energies on portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and fine art work.
My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then finally deciding what to capture. The result is images that deeply touch people's emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams.
My images are used commercially by companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary to communicate their shared vision and values. Book and magazine publishers have featured my images on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the decor of many fine homes.
