Drug Deal on the Metro Transit Light Rail

Drug Deal on the Metro Transit Light Rail

So I had an interesting experience this afternoon riding home from work on the lightrail train in Minneapolis.  I had left work early enough so that the train was not full of professionals and corporate types, you know like me.   There were many lower income people most of whom are great hardworking individuals just trying to eek out a living for themselves and their family.

But then the rougher people started getting on.  They talk loud, they have their music up way too loud and they swear every other word.  When then come on you can feel the tension level go up in the train.  Are they going to do something insane?  Are they just going to annoy people?

This day was going to be even a little more different.  On this day I was going to be witness to a drug deal on the train.  Well it was not the entire drug deal, but it was the first part of it.  But the story gets even stranger.  This late teen or twenty something young woman is about eight months pregnant.  She is warning a pink tank top and has quite a few tattoos on her body and she has that hard feel to her.  So she sits down across from me and is listening to loud her music for a while.  She gets a phone call and it quickly becomes obvious it is her dealer.  Hey Johnny (name made up to protect the guilty), will you sell me 21 (insert drug name here) for $120?  Oh come on now, I need to make some money on this deal.  You say 20 for $140?  How about 21 for 150?  Ok, that will work. Can you bring them over right away?  I am going to the projects for a get together and I will be able to sell them there this afternoon.

So I am feeling a bit sick.  What are the chances that she is using the drugs that she is selling?  I am guessing the chances are pretty good.  So how in the world is that baby going to be doing as it comes into the world?  Maybe the most important thing going through my mind is what in the hell can I do about this drug deal?  Do we live in an insane world?   God help us!!

About waynem

As a Minnesota based photographer and artist I have been greatly influenced by the Upper Midwest. I focus my skills and energies on portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and fine art work. My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then finally deciding what to capture. The result is images that deeply touch people's emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams. My images are used commercially by companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary to communicate their shared vision and values. Book and magazine publishers have featured my images on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the decor of many fine homes.
