The Importance of Inbound Links (and How to Get Them!)

One of the many ways to increase your visibility in the search engines like Google is to appear import.  This is a measure of actually being important in the wed community.  The way you appear important is to have many web sites link to your site. This process is known as building inbound links, or backlinks. Inbound links are those that direct to your page from another website or domain.

Inbound links are a vital component of search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines, like Google and Bing, use the number of backlinks to your website to calculate your site’s popularity and determine where to rank it as opposed to other websites with similar content. That means that the better you are at gaining inbound links, the better page rank your website will have and the higher you rank in Google and other search engines.  Remember, that is the main goal here, getting found easily in the search engines.

Here are a few tips on how you can help boost your online presence by gaining more inbound links:

Get listed – We frequently emphasize the fact that your website needs to be listed in online directories like Google Places and Yelp. These types of websites don’t just help potential customers discover your products or services within their own domains; they also boost your site’s overall page rank with search engines.

Create valuable content – This is so critical I cannot stress it enough.  Share the knowledge and expertise you’ve gained in your field on your business blog or on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. When consumers, industry peers, or other contacts see value in the content you present, they will be more likely to share it via their own online channels. Post new and timely content consistently to keep your inbound links fresh!

Build social relationships – As you build more quality relationships in online social channels like Twitter and LinkedIn, those contacts will be more likely to view and share the content you provide. Focus on relationships with the knowledge leaders and strong online influences in your industry for even more of a boost.
Encourage links to you – make it as easy as possible for appropriate content providers to link to you and to submit their site to your for a link.  This creates a win situation, you get more links to your site and you become aware of great new sites and content.

And, remember, consistency is the key to keeping your website rank high!

Increase your inbound links right now by submitting your site for linking to our directory right here.  If you implement this process on your own site you will see the links back to you explode.

Happy search engine optimizing!!!

About waynem

As a Minnesota based photographer and artist I have been greatly influenced by the Upper Midwest. I focus my skills and energies on portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and fine art work. My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then finally deciding what to capture. The result is images that deeply touch people's emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams. My images are used commercially by companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary to communicate their shared vision and values. Book and magazine publishers have featured my images on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the decor of many fine homes.
