A new Star Tribune Minnesota poll showed opposition to ‘legal unions’ increased 10 percentage points over the previous year. The poll showed that 52 percent of adults in the state oppose gay and lesbian legal unions while 38 percent favor them. “Civil unions for same-sex couples in the eyes of the state are identical to marriage except for the word,” says Tom Prichard, President of Minnesota Family Council. “As voters realize that civil unions are just marriage by another name, the opposition will grow even stronger,” notes Prichard. Of the thirteen states that amended their state constitutions in 2004 to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, 10 also prohibited same-sex civil unions. The Minnesota marriage amendment would prohibit creating civil unions that are the equivalent of marriage.
“Same-sex marriage, civil or otherwise, does not extend the right to marriage to other individuals, it fundamentally redefines marriage for everyone,” says Gary Borgendale of Minnesota for Marriage. “For example, the province of Ontario Canada, which legalized same-sex marriage, just passed a law deleting the words “wife,” “husband,” “widow,” and “widower,” from every statute in which they appear. It is critical that we think through all the consequences before we overthrow an institution as fundamental as marriage.”

About waynem
As a Minnesota based photographer and artist I have been greatly influenced by the Upper Midwest. I focus my skills and energies on portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, architectural and fine art work.
My best work comes from images first painted in my mind. I mull over a prospective image for weeks or months, seeing it from different angles and perspectives, then finally deciding what to capture. The result is images that deeply touch people's emotions and powerfully evoke memories and dreams.
My images are used commercially by companies and organizations ranging from Financial Services firms, mom and pop Ice Cream shops and The Basilica of St Mary to communicate their shared vision and values. Book and magazine publishers have featured my images on their covers. My photographs also grace and enhance the decor of many fine homes.
